Orrick J. Miller (Done) Ezreal_by_ser323-d5guh0p

Basic Character Information:

Name: Orrick James Miller
Alias / Nickname: n/a
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Race: Human

Appearance: Orrick is young and feminine-looking, a combination that has not served him well in his time on the road. Despite his wishing that he had a more intimidating appearance, he is stuck with his slender frame and small stature. He is 5‘4‘’ tall, towering over absolutely no one, and he weighs in at a mere 105 pounds. He looks like he should still be in middle school, despite being a self-sufficient adult (or close enough) who has spent the last year traveling a dangerous world on his own. He has narrow shoulders and small hands that are surprisingly rough and calloused, one of the few things that betray a life of hard work. Despite the time he spends outside, his fair skin doesn’t tan, but he is lucky enough to be fairly resistant to sunburn; a lifesaver for someone with a lifestyle such as his.

Orrick has silky blonde hair that doesn’t quite reach his shoulders in its length, and on his golden-locked head he typically wears a pair of go-goggles: a must have for anyone who wishes to travel in any weather. His face is heart shaped, containing a pair of mischievous eyes of deep, rich blue. His apparel is versatile, suitable for nearly any climate with some minor adjustments. He wears white linen t-shirt under a durable brown coat. Around his neck he wears a loosely tied scarf, and on his lower body is a pair of dependable jeans and two worn leather boots. He also wears fingerless gloves. In case of more extreme weather he has a long black trenchcoat and a pair of goloshes, as well as some leather gloves and and a black skullcap.

Personality: Orrick is ever-smiling and playful, with a wicked sense of humor and a fondness for pranks. He likes to have fun and experience new things, and absolutely can’t stand boredom or stagnation. Despite his love for pranks, he is rather prickly when it comes to his own pride. When feeling humiliated he will put on a facade of revelry, laughing with everyone else, but internally he will burn with a desire for retribution. He can hold a grudge until the end of time, and though you may not even know you crossed him, you will one day find out at the most inopportune time. He takes few things seriously, his pride being the only thing that will truly get to him.

Overall Orrick is rather friendly and outgoing, never hesitating to meet a new face and share some stories or a good battle. He tends to get on some others’ nerves with his childish attitude and ill-timed jokes, but he generally means well. He loves to share in laughter with others, but contrary to what one may think, he actually does not like to be the center of attention. He is content to be the one standing at the right hand of the leader, offering advice and perhaps a quip or two. His lack of real ambition holds him back from true greatness, but his love of fun and adventure keeps him moving on in his travels.

Goals: Orrick lacks the ambition to have any real goals beyond the extremely nearsighted. His only goals would be to get to his next destination, have a drink if he can snag one, and have a good time. Of course he has a constant need for funds, and if the need is dire enough he might be motivated to do something about it: usually gambling or fencing some “appropriated” merchandise. One “goal” that Orrick has had since childhood is more of a dream, really. He wants to travel to the four corners of the world and see every nation, pokemon, and wonder there is to see. It’s an unattainable goal, but the fact that he can keep chasing it for his entire life means he doesn’t have to stop and worry about other things.

History and it's Gifts:

Skills/Talents: As is to be expected from any adventurer, Orrick is a skilled survivalist with the ability to build shelters, procure food in the wilderness, build fires, and perform the necessary tasks to survive on his own in the wild. He is particularly skilled at navigation, able to accurately pinpoint his general location and even travel to new locations without the need of a map, using the stars and his surroundings as a guide. Orrick’s fondness for pranks has led him to hone his ability to move stealthily, and the skill has proven useful in his journey, allowing him to pickpocket and shoplift his way out of (and into) difficult situations.

Weaknesses/Faults/fears: As mentioned before, Orrick’s pride can get the better of him. He is quick to take offense, though he wont say it out loud, and he is not one to easily forgive a slight. In addition, he has a lack of ambition, only desiring to have fun. Despite loving to make friends, he has a hard time keeping them do his tendency to run wild when things start to get “boring.” He is mildly claustrophobic, small spaces making him extremely uncomfortable and sometimes nauseous.

History: Born to a pair of young pokemon trainers, Orrick spent the beginning of his life in the city of Nakir. His father left to continue his pokemon journey when Orrick was still baby, forcing his mother to abandon her dreams of becoming a pokemon master and raise Orrick on her own. She continued to battle pokemon in her spare time, even becoming a gym trainer in the Nakir Lightning Gym, but she wouldn’t be able to travel the world as she once did. Orrick’s mother would commonly tell him stories of her traveling days, speaking romantically of the pokemon trainers life, filling Orrick’s young mind with dreams of adventure. Her stories were what shaped Orrick’s desire to travel the world.

Growing up Orrick was always the runt, the smallest child in the group. He was forced to be quick on his toes to avoid being picked on, and often time he would stave off the ridicule of other children by making them laugh with jokes and pranks. He would shield himself from harm by befriending others, especially the biggest or most influential kids. In doing this, Orrick was able to keep himself from being alienated, and he actually managed to thrive. Orrick was always with the in-crowd, and in his teenage years he spent his free time at parties and clubs. He reveled in the excitement and freedom of teen life, much to the dismay of his mother. Luckily, she was always able to reign Orrick in, keeping his head on straight enough to stop him from failing his classes.

Orrick graduated from High School in Nakir knowing that he would immediately move on to a pokemon journey. He entertained no thoughts of higher education or employment, and although his mother didn’t approve, she understood. She even gave Orrick a parting gift: a pokemon egg. Departing his home city with a backpack full of supplies and his trusty poochyena at his side, Orrick set off into the world, ready for adventure. He lasted a week before disaster struck. While camping out in an admittedly seedy looking rest stop, he was mugged by a gang of pokemorphs. The thugs robbed Orrick of all his money as well as his pokemon, though a few valuable items escaped their attention thanks to Orrick’s quick reflexes and deft hands. Among the items he retained was his pokemon egg, which he would have to guard with his life if he was going to survive the pokemon world on his own. The egg eventually hatched into Shinx, and the whole ordeal taught Orrick that the life of a traveling pokemon trainer was not as pristine and elegant as he had originally imagined.

Orrick spent the next few months moving from place to place, scrounging for what money and food he could and getting into the occasional battle. He quickly learned what it took to live on the road, picking up skills and tricks from more experienced travelers and learning some things on his own. After his initial run in with the pokemorph thugs who stole his pokemon, Orrick developed a bit of a prejudice against other  pokemorphs. His grudge wasn’t enough to stop him from sharing stories, battles, or the occasional bite to eat with half-pokemon travelers, but it did prevent him from pursuing any friendship with them. He couldn’t bring himself to trust them. Orrick still travels the nation of Spira with his small team of pokemon. He has yet to take on any gyms, though he is confident that could succeed if he decided to do so. For now, he wanders aimlessly, looking for the next source of excitement.

RP Sample: This was by far the shortest amount of time Orrick had spent in a city before being arrested. The young man was standing against a wall outside of the building he had just grabbed an after-dinner snack from, and was staring down an armored peacekeeper at sworpoint. The swordbearing lawman was going on about how thievery wouldn’t be tolerated in his town, and how he was tired of “scum” like Orrick rolling in and making a mess of things. Honestly, Orrick didn’t see what the big deal was. The snacks he had nabbed were hardly worth more than a couple of bucks, and who was going to miss them? No one would have even known the difference if it weren’t for that loudmouthed kid blabbing on him when he left the store without paying. That was the last time he picked an idiot child to be he his cover.

Orrick raised his hands gingerly in an “I surrender” posture, his eyes locked on the blade pointed mere inches away from his throat. Despite the knot in his stomach, he managed a lighthearted laugh. “How’s it going there, sir? You know, this is actually kind of funny. What we have is just a huuuuge misunderstanding. I swear, you’ll get a kick out of this. How about you just lower that sword, and...”

”Shut up, filth!” the guard snarled, causing Orrick to flinch away from his shuddering sword. ”You aren’t weaseling out of this. Hand over your bag and the pokeballs on your belt, then put your hands behind your back and wait to be cuffed.” Orrick had enough experience with the law to know this particular peacekeeper was most definitely not bluffing, so he obligingly removed his backpack and pokeballs. As he gave them to the armored officer, he tried again to diffuse the situation, but he recieved only a cold glare. ”Now, hands behind your back, criminal.” The man growled.

Orrick sighed dejectedly, a resigned look in his eye. He slowly turned around, and when he was no longer facing the swordsman he smiled. As usual, the man had lowered his guard when he thought his victim was beyond resisting. Separating a pokemon trainer from his pokeballs was usually enough to keep a young, weak-looking kid from becoming a threat, but the confiscators almost always forget an important rule: Pokemon aren’t always in their pokeballs.

With a gust of wind and a resounding clang, Orrick heard the familiar clatter of an armored peacekeeper dropping to the ground. ”Impeccable timing as always, Longshot.” Orrick proclaimed, turning around to see the punching pokemon standing over his defeated opponent. Longshot was rubbing his glove-shaped knuckles, a smug grin on his face. The look seemed to say ”I’m badass and you know it. There’s no way you would last a day without me.” Orrick gave Longshot a playful punch in the arm (the punch he received in return brought tears to his eyes), and returned the pokemon to his ball. Grabbing his confiscated items, as well as a few “gifts" from the swordsman, the young man set off into the city. It was a promising start, but the night was still young.
